Brisbane Gourmet Food Truck Initiative

Bcc

Did you know that in 2016 the Brisbane Food Truck Initiative started?

We have been doing some research and have dug up some valuable information for emerging and already existing mobile food businesses in the Brisbane region.

The purpose of the Brisbane Food Truck Initiative is to support the Gourmet Food Truck industry and provide residents with unique and creative food experiences. As an expansion of the Council’s policy on commercial activities on roads and in parks, there is now the opportunity to expand your mobile food business and become an approved Gourmet Food Truck. The council has defined a Gourmet Food Truck as a mobile food vehicle that offers a creative food experience which will gain the privilege to trade in nominated premium and drive-up sites across the city.

There are 3 key requirements to be granted a Gourmet Food Truck permit:

Gourmet food offering:

You must serve near-restaurant quality cuisine with high-quality food presentation that will offer the community a unique food experience.  The offering should complement and provide a point of difference to existing fixed food businesses within the Brisbane region and incorporate locally sourced, fresh or homemade ingredients where possible.

Presentation:

Your business must have a distinctive visual presentation that displays a creative edge, innovation and quality. You must also have an active online presence to engage a following in the area.

Environmental sustainability:

Your business must have sustainable business operations to reduce environmental impact. You must provide relevant methods and processes for effective waste reduction, energy practices and recycling that is suitable for the Brisbane City Council Government area. Read our blog on Food Waste for some handy tips.

Attaining a Gourmet Food Truck Approval gives you exclusive access to trading locations that other Mobile Food Business Licence holders do not have access to. The premium sites are designated locations on council land which require pre-bookings and the drive-up sites are locations on council road reserves that require no pre-booking. These spots are in prime locations with great foot traffic for guarantee food sales.
